They say love works in mysterious ways, but I never imagined it would come in the form of a business transaction. Yep, you read that right…our love story started with an invoice.

Let me set the scene: Sarah Beth had just started working at the realty office next door, and as the neighborly type, I offered to design and print her business cards. (Because nothing says “Welcome to the neighborhood” like a stack of professionally designed cards, right?) I whipped up a design that would make any new Realtor proud and sent her an invoice, expecting nothing more than a prompt payment and maybe a future business referral.

Little did I know, that invoice was about to change my life.

Upon receiving, Sarah Beth replied with a message about how “professional looking” the invoice was. Now, I thought she was just being polite, maybe even buttering me up for a discount (I’ve been in business long enough to know that trick!). So, naturally, I responded in a friendly, business as usual tone.

What I didn’t realize…because, let’s be honest, I can be as sharp as a butter knife when it comes to this stuff….was that she wasn’t just impressed with my invoicing skills. Nope, she was flirting! Dropping hints like confetti at a parade. And there I was, completely oblivious, just chatting away, thinking we were having a perfectly professional exchange.

I’d like to say there was a lightbulb moment when I suddenly realized, “Hey, I think she likes me!” But nope, that didn’t happen. Instead, it took a few more “business related” conversations (and maybe a neon sign) before it finally dawned on me that Sarah Beth wasn’t just interested in my design skills…she was interested in me!

From that first “professional” invoice to a whirlwind of flirty banter (once I finally caught on), our relationship grew into something much more. Who knew that sending an invoice could lead to sending wedding invites?

So here we are, getting ready to tie the knot. And to think, it all started with a simple business transaction. Let this be a lesson to all you single entrepreneurs out there: always make sure your invoices are top notch, you never know where they might lead!

And as for Sarah Beth, I’m just glad she had the patience to stick around while I figured things out. I might have been slow on the uptake, but I’m fast to say that she’s the best thing that ever happened to me. (And yes, I’ve learned to pick up on her flirting now…most of the time…it’s really obvious nowadays )
